Wellington College in Berkshire, England, is the founding school of the Wellington College family. Established by Royal Charter in 1859, the College was created as a living memorial to the first Duke of Wellington, one of Britain’s most respected leaders, celebrated for his role in shaping national history. Today, the school remains guided by the Duke’s enduring values of service, leadership and character.
Originally opened as a boys’ boarding school, Wellington College has evolved into one of the United Kingdom’s leading co-educational schools. Its educational philosophy combines academic excellence with the development of the whole person, intellectually, emotionally, physically and ethically. This forward-looking approach was strengthened under the leadership of Sir Anthony Seldon (13th Master), who championed innovative education rooted in well-being, curiosity and balanced personal growth. The College continues this tradition today under the current Master, James Dahl.
Each year, Wellington College welcomes pupils from across the UK and around the world. The school is committed to maintaining a balanced and inclusive community, nurturing confident, thoughtful and compassionate young people who are prepared to lead and make a meaningful difference in a global society. A Campus Designed to Inspire Set within over 400 acres of parkland, Wellington College blends historic architecture with award-winning modern facilities. Pupils learn, live and grow in an environment that encourages curiosity, creativity, adventure and well-being.
